God's Shuffle

Location: Eindhoven, Breda, Helmond, Den Bosch, Tilburg the Netherlands
Period: 03-02-2006 till 18-06-2006

Description
The interactive installation God's Shuffle is created for the Senses project. A multi disciplinary project which combines poetry, visual art, sound and performance art all inspired by the five senses. The exhibition travels to five cities, each of which was allotted a sense:
Breda: Taste
Den Bosch: Feel
Eindhoven: Sight
Helmond: Smell
Tilburg: Sound
A poet from every city was asked to write a poem (Dutch) inspired by the sense. For every city five artists from other the fields were asked to base they work on the poem. One poet was asked to write a poem inspired by the whole exhibition. A DVD with interviews with all 36 artists accompanies the exhibition.

In the weblog Danielle Roberts has written about the creation process of this work, from the idea stage up to the completion of the software and console. (Text in Dutch.)
God's Shuffle's interface is borrowed from the well known slot machines. It contains 6 buttons, activated by a touch screen, with which the user can choose a picture and take a photograph of herself through the webcam. Then the user may press the go! button and watch how the program takes at random 4x4 pixel pieces from the original pictures and creates a new random picture.

Technique
Webcam: Philips ToUcam Pro
Touch screen: Magic Touch Add-On
Custom program is made with Adobe Flash 8 and MDM Zinc 2.5
